August 17, 1997 was the day I first posted a chapter of fanfiction to Usenet with the intent of posting chapters weekly on an indefinite basis. I continued until early 2001, at that point having been posting chapters in serial comic strip form instead of prose for over a year, when the comic strips returned to the standalone gag format of my daily cartoons since before the internet but still in the same fanfiction universe. Though I'd posted a multi-part Doctor Who/X-Files crossover the previous May, I always count August 17 as the founding date of the crossover multiverse those stories and cartoons are set in, and in which some stories are still set.
